The FUGE Student Leader Apprentice (SLA) program is a two-week experience for students who love camp and want to gain hands-on leadership experience in a camp environment. Students go behind the scenes at FUGE and learn valuable leadership skills within the camp ministry setting. SLA is designed for students who are about to enter or who have just completed their senior year in High School. During the first week of the program students will participate in a variety of experiences including a personality and leadership assessment, ministry sites, recreation, Bible study, development of leadership skills, prayer experiences, worship, etc…

During the second week, students will be apprenticed to a FUGE staffer and will gain hands-on camp experience. Students will serve in a variety of roles, assisting the overall camp program. The apprentice week will give students a first-hand look at camp ministry as well as prepare them for future leadership roles.

Quotes About SLA

SLA taught me so much about myself, the church, and my walk with Christ. I learned how key intentionality is when it comes to my time. I learned how crucial flexibility is in my ministry. It helped me to see Christ’s constant pursuit of me and that he expects the same pursuit in return. The lessons I learned at SLA have given me so many opportunities to serve and love those around me.

Walt, SLA 2012

SLA was the first place I truly understood what being a disciple of Christ meant. Over the two weeks I was shaped into a leader with a heart for growing the kingdom of God and learned what it truly means to die every day for Christ. SLA taught me to be a fully committed leader focused on God’s will for my life and discipling others.

Jon,  SLA 2012

I learned a lot within my first week as an SLA from how to lean on the people around me to the importance of intentionality in every relationship to what authentic community looks like. When I was paired with my staffer during week two of the program I was able to see what being a servant leader looked like in a very practical way. I was able to put what I learned in week one to action in week two. The way I live is forever different because of my time at SLA.

Payton, SLA 2013 & 2014
